1. Introduction
Welcome to Hoodsy (“Hoodsy,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). Hoodsy is a technology platform that connects people who need help with local tasks (“Posters”) with independent individuals willing to complete those tasks (“Helpers”).
By accessing or using the Hoodsy website, mobile application, or related services (collectively, the “Platform”), you agree to these Terms & Conditions (“Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.
2. Platform Role (Important)
Hoodsy is not:
- an employer
- a staffing agency
- a contractor
- an insurance provider
Hoodsy operates solely as a marketplace and payment-facilitation platform.
- Helpers are independent contractors.
- Posters are independent users.
- Hoodsy does not supervise, direct, or control how tasks are performed.
3. Eligibility & Accounts
To use Hoodsy, you must:
- Be legally eligible to work or hire for work in your state
- Provide accurate and complete information
- Maintain the security of your account
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
4. Helpers (Independent Workers)
Helpers:
- Choose when and where to work
- Decide which jobs to accept
- Provide their own tools, transportation, and methods
- Are responsible for performing tasks safely and lawfully
Background Checks
Helpers may be required to complete a background check through a third-party provider (e.g., Checkr).
- Completion of a background check does not guarantee job acceptance or future work.
- Hoodsy does not store full Social Security numbers or sensitive background-check payment information.
5. Posters (Job Creators)
Posters:
- Create and post jobs at their discretion
- Define task details, timing, and payment
- Are responsible for providing accurate descriptions
- Are responsible for maintaining a safe environment
Hoodsy does not guarantee that a posted job will be accepted or completed.
6. Payments, Fees & Payouts
Job Payments
When a Poster posts a job:
- The payment method is authorized at posting
- Funds are held by Hoodsy’s payment processor
- The charge is captured only after the job is marked completed
Platform Fee
- Hoodsy charges a 15% platform fee on completed jobs
- The remaining amount is paid to the Helper
Hoodsy does not pay Helpers directly outside of the Platform.
Payouts to Helpers
- Standard payouts are processed automatically (e.g., daily)
- Helpers may optionally choose Instant Cash Out for a convenience fee
- Instant payout fees are disclosed before confirmation
Instant payout is optional. Free standard payouts remain available.
7. Taxes
Helpers are solely responsible for determining and paying any applicable federal, state, or local taxes arising from earnings through Hoodsy.
Hoodsy does not withhold taxes. Tax reporting, where required, is handled by Hoodsy’s payment processor.
Hoodsy does not provide tax advice.
8. Ratings, Reviews & Feedback
Users may leave ratings and feedback after job completion.
- Feedback must be honest and non-defamatory
- Hoodsy may remove content that violates these Terms
- Ratings help inform other users but are not guarantees of performance
9. Safety, Risk & Responsibility
Users acknowledge that:
- Tasks may involve physical activity or risk
- Hoodsy does not inspect job sites or supervise work
- Users are responsible for assessing safety and suitability
Hoodsy is not responsible for injuries, property damage, or losses arising from task performance.
10. Disputes, Cancellations & No-Shows
Hoodsy provides tools to report:
- No-shows
- Cancellations
- Disputes regarding task completion
Hoodsy does not guarantee dispute outcomes and is not responsible for resolving personal disagreements between users.
11. Account Suspension & Termination
Hoodsy may suspend or terminate accounts for:
- Fraud or misrepresentation
- Abuse or harassment
- Safety concerns
- Violation of these Terms
Users may close their accounts at any time.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- Hoodsy is not liable for user conduct, task outcomes, injuries, or damages
- Hoodsy’s total liability is limited to the fees paid to Hoodsy in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Hoodsy from claims arising from:
- Your use of the Platform
- Tasks you perform or request
- Violations of law or these Terms
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, except where federal or other state laws apply by requirement.
15. Jurisdiction & Nationwide Use
Hoodsy operates throughout the United States. Users are responsible for complying with all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
16. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Platform constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
